Chief Justice Martin Appoints Chief District Court Judges for Judicial Districts 12 and 23

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed chief district court judges: Judge Robert Stiehl (District 12) and Judge David Byrd (District 23).

Judge Robert Stiehl to Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 12

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed Judge Robert Stiehl as chief district court judge for Judicial District 12 (Cumberland County), effective January 1, 2015. Judge Stiehl will succeed Judge Beth Keever, who will retire.

Judge Stiehl has served District 12 as a district court judge since 1994, and was previously an assistant district attorney from 1986 to 1988 and 1989 to 1994. He graduated from Campbell Law School in 1985.

Judge David Byrd to Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 23

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed Judge David Byrd as chief district court judge for District 23, effective January 1, 2015. Judge Byrd will succeed Judge Michael Duncan.

District 23 includes Alleghany, Ashe, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties.

Judge Byrd has served District 23 as a district court judge since 1994. He was previously an assistant district attorney from 1989 to 1994, and a magistrate from 1983 to 1986. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1989.
