The North Carolina Court of Appeals announced today that it will hold oral arguments on Thursday, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. using Webex for the first time in the history of the Court. The case is COA 19-786 Simmons v. Wiles and will be heard by Judge Lucy InmanJudge Valerie Zachary, and Judge Reuben Young

The public can watch the session, but will not be able to participate, which is customary when oral arguments take place physically in the courtroom.

“The Court has modernized to process its caseload while safely providing access to justice during the pandemic,” said Chief Judge Linda McGee. “We hope that leveraging the use of technology available to us during these exceptional times will help us to continue building the public’s trust and confidence in our judicial system.”

The public can watch the oral arguments live on the Court of Appeals website.
