Congratulations to Anna Stearns, general counsel and chief of staff to Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, who recently received North Carolina Lawyer's Weekly's Rising Stars Award. This award was established to recognize “lawyers who have been out of law school 10 years or less and have already made a strong impact in the legal community.”
“I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition,“ said Stearns. “I am thrilled to be working with Chief Justice Beasley and look forward to all we can accomplish for the Judicial Branch.“
Along with only 29 other lawyers from across North Carolina, Stearns was selected based on her career accomplishments, contributions to the profession, contributions to the development of the law, contributions to the bar and the state, and her efforts to increase access to justice.
I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition. I am thrilled to be working with Chief Justice Beasley and look forward to all we can accomplish for the Judicial Branch.
According to North Carolina Lawyer's Weekly, Stearns is “the picture of determination and hard work” having experienced poverty and obstacles as a child growing up in the North Carolina mountains. The path to her current career was not an easy one as she worked her way through college first at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College for an Associate of Arts degree and then earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Stearns went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from Campbell Law School. “I am grateful to my former boss and mentor, Ronald Sneed, who encouraged and supported me through each step of my journey,” said Stearns.
Stearns and the other honorees were recognized at a special luncheon and program held in Raleigh in May.
