ADVISORY: Innocence Inquiry Commission to Hold a Hearing for 2002 Murder Case from Forsyth County

The Commission’s executive director, Lindsey Guice Smith, will present the case to Commissioners beginning Monday, March 9.

The North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission will hold a hearing on a 2002 murder case from Forsyth County beginning Monday, March 9. The presiding judge will be the Commission’s alternate chair, the Honorable Thomas H. Lock, senior resident superior court judge, Judicial District 11B, Johnston County. The Commission’s executive director, Lindsey Guice Smith, will present the case to Commissioners. The Commission is a state agency established in 2006 by the General Assembly to investigate and evaluate post-conviction claims of factual innocence.

The North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission is the first of its kind in the nation. The Commission was created by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2006 and began operating in 2007. Since then, the Commission has reviewed over 2,700 innocence claims and conducted multiple hearings.
