Moore County Jury Service
Length of Service
Jurors seated for a trial must serve until the trial ends, which may be two days to several weeks. Most jurors, however, only serve for one or two days.
When and Where to Report
Location: Moore County Courts Facility Building, 102 Monroe Street, Carthage, North Carolina.
Parking: Free parking is available at the parking lot located on Ray Street, directly across from the U.S. Post Office and beside the Carthage Presbyterian Church.
Reporting Instructions: Instructions regarding the day and time to report are listed on the front of your summons. You will be required to call on the first day of summons between the hours of 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. The phone number to call is also listed on the front of your summons. Follow the instructions on the recorded message. You will either hear a time to report or you will be excused if your jury service is no longer needed.
Excusal or Deferral From Jury Service
Excuses from jury service can be made by submitting the online form using the link below. You will receive an email with the response to your request.
Alternatively, you may fill out the back of your summons and mail your request to the following address. You will receive a letter in the mail with the response to your request.

Submission Deadline: Your request must be received no later than 10 days prior to your date of summons. Requests cannot be granted over the phone. If your request is denied, you will be required to follow the instructions on the front of the summons.
Required Documentation: The following is required to be submitted with your request for excusal / deferment:
- If you are not a U.S. Citizen, please provide a copy of your visa or green card.
- If you are not a resident of this county; please provide a copy of your driver's license.
- If you are a full-time student at an out-of-state institution, please provide a copy of your schedule.
- If you have a disability that interferes with jury service, please provide a doctor's statement.
- If you are on a military assignment, please provide a copy of your orders.
- Please explain your reason if you are aged 72 or older and wish to claim an exemption for a good cause.

Additional Information
Jurors may bring a book, needlework, crossword puzzles, or other materials to occupy their time. While efforts will be made by the court to reduce delays in trials and to avoid long waiting periods, some waiting time should be anticipated while jurors are chosen to sit on a jury.
Jurors should dress comfortably, but not too casually. Jurors should dress for court as if going to work or to church. Many judges do not allow anyone to come to court wearing halter or tank tops, cut-off jeans, shorts, or shirts with offensive wording. Jurors will be acting as part of the court while serving, so dress appropriately. Layered clothing is recommended since courtroom temperatures may vary considerably, requiring the removal or addition of a sweater or jacket.
In an emergency, jurors may be contacted through the Clerk of Superior Court's Office or at an emergency number given to jurors when they arrive at the courthouse. The court staff will make certain any emergency messages are delivered.
