Chief Justice Martin Presents Friend of the Court Award to Judge Erwin Spainhour

Chief Justice Mark Martin has presented the Friend of the Court award to Judge Erwin Spainhour, former senior resident superior court judge for Judicial District 19A in Cabarrus County. Judge Spainhour received the award on Friday, June 2, during the N.C. Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission meeting in Raleigh.

The Friend of the Court is the highest award given by the Judicial Branch. Judge Spainhour serves as chair of the N.C. Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission, and is a former president of the N.C. Bar. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Judge Spainhour began his judicial service in 1998 and retired from the court in 2014. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Spainhour served as a criminal and civil attorney for 27 years. He graduated from Davidson College and received his juris doctor (J.D.) from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
