Chief Justice Mark Martin has presented Melvin F. Wright Jr., Executive Director of the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism (CJCP), with the CJCP Award for Meritorious and Extraordinary Service at the Commission on Professionalism's Retirement Reception, held in his honor, at the N.C. State Bar headquarters in Raleigh on April 28.

This award was established by the CJCP to recognize and honor members of the legal profession, who exhibit the highest professional standards throughout their careers, and by their conduct, make special contributions to the furtherance of professional standards and to the cause of equal justice under the law, often through the exercise of personal courage. Wright is the seventh recipient of the award.

The award was presented with the following inscription: "The Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism Presents the CJCP Award for Meritorious and Extraordinary Service to Melvin F. Wright, Jr. for his determined commitment to the principles of professionalism as evidenced by his steadfast dedication to the Cause of Justice at the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism, by providing sound and consistent leadership, counsel, guidance, and assistance to countless attorneys, judges, law students, legal personnel, and citizens for more than seventeen years in his position as Executive Director."
