Flooding in the Summersill Building has forced the relocation of the Onslow County District Courts and the Clerk of Court's personnel from the Summersill Building to other sites. At this time it is difficult to predict when this building can be safely reopened to the public. All courts have been canceled through Friday, September 21, 2018.

After consultations between Clerk of Court Lisa Brown, District Attorney Ernie Lee, Chief District Court Judge Paul Hardison, Superior Court Judge Charles Henry and city and county officials, it was determined that the courts need to be reopened and made operational as soon as possible.

The following changes have been made in locations and hours of operation as follows beginning Monday, September 24, 2018, and continuing through at least Friday, September 28, 2018.

Criminal Superior Court: 2nd floor of the Old Courthouse, 625 Court Street, starting at 2 P.M. and remaining in session until 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those individuals who have been previously summoned to appear at the morning session of superior court shall report at 2 p.m. on the day of their scheduled appearance. Those individuals who have previously been summoned to appear at the afternoon session of superior court shall report at 5 p.m. on the day of their scheduled appearance. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

Criminal District Courts: 2nd floor of the Old Courthouse, 625 Court Street, starting at 8:30 a.m. and remaining in session until 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

Civil Non-jury District Court: Old train depot, 421 Court Street, starting at 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

Small Claims Court: Onslow County Sheriff's Office, corner of Court Street and Tallman Street, 2nd floor, starting at 9 a.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

District Court Domestic: Jacksonville Department of Public Safety, corner of Highway 17 (Business) and Court Street, starting at 9 a.m., Monday through Wednesday. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

District Child Support Court: Jacksonville Department of Public Safety, corner of Highway 17 (Business) and Court Street, starting at 9 a.m., Thursday and Friday. It is recommended that all individuals should contact their attorneys as soon as possible to confirm their court appearances.

Court officials and personnel understand that these scheduling and location changes will be inconvenient, but every effort will be made to keep the courts functioning and to provide necessary services through the office of the Clerk of Court.

It is only through the cooperation and assistance of Sheriff Hans Miller, Chief of Police Michael Yaniero, County Manager David Cotton and the County Commissioners, City Manager Richard Woodruff and Mayor Sammy Phillips that the courts and the office of the Clerk of Court will be able to resume its operations and services.
