Chief Justice Paul Newby issued an order today extending emergency directives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s order extends the stay for certain pending forfeiture proceedings to the close of business on February 28.

It includes transcript-related amendments approved on November 17, which are effective for cases that are appealed on or after January 1.

The order replaces the expired order issued on December 14, 2020, and is effective today, January 14, 2021. 

Chief Justice Paul Newby became the 30th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina.

Chief Justice-Elect Newby, Associate Justice-Elect Berger, and Associate Justice-Elect Barringer will be invested in a virtual ceremony.
