Court College offers members of the community an up close and personal look at how the court system operates.

PurposeCourt College offers members of the community an up close and personal look at how the court system operates. The purpose of Court College is to create and strengthen relationships with the members of the community through the sharing of information and exchange of ideas. We seek to better educate the community about the role, responsibilities, organization and structure of our court system in order to dispel misunderstandings, heighten awareness regarding resource limitations, and build contacts with an increasingly engaged citizenry.

MethodologyClasses meet weekly in the evenings for two hours, for seven weeks, and are taught by judicial officials and court administrators. Classes are held in the Mecklenburg County Courthouse and other respective offices associated with the Court. Class members will be given a behind-the-scenes tour of the courthouse.

Attendants could include: Persons interested in learning about our judicial system, Educational Leaders/Teachers, Civic Leaders, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, Members of the Media or Business Owners/Leaders.

Who is Eligible to Attend?

  •     Qualified applicants must be age 18 or older.
  •     Qualified applicants must commit to attending six of the seven available classes.
  •     Qualified applicants will have not have been convicted of any misdemeanor (other than a traffic violation) or felonies.
  •     Qualified applicants must not have any cases, criminal or civil, pending before the court.

  •     Gain a first-hand knowledge of how our courts are structured.
  •     Learn how cases are processed in the system.
  •     Gain a better understanding of and appreciation for the integral parts our courts play in a civilized society.
  •     Meet elected officials and other court officials who work in the system.
  •     Ask direct questions of judges and other court officials.
  •     Learn how our courts are funded.

NOTE: The application deadline is FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 2020.
