Judge Edgar Barnes to Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 1

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed Judge Edgar Barnes as chief district court judge for Judicial District 1, effective January 1, 2015. Judge Barnes will succeed Judge Christopher Bean, who is retiring.

District 1 includes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties.

Judge Barnes has served District 1 as a district court judge since 1995, was previously a private attorney, and an assistant district attorney in District 11. He graduated from N.C. Central University School of Law in 1986.

Judge Scott Brewer to Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 16A

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed Judge Scott Brewer as chief district court judge for the new Judicial District 16A (Scotland, Hoke, Anson, and Richmond counties), effective January 1, 2015. Judge Brewer is currently the chief district court judge for District 20A (Stanly, Anson, and Richmond counties).

Judge Brewer has served District 20A as a district court judge since 2002 and as chief district court judge since 2013. He was an assistant district attorney from 1987 until becoming a judge, and graduated from Campbell Law School in 1984.

Judge Burford Cherry to Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 25

Chief Justice Mark Martin has appointed Judge Burford Cherry as chief district court judge for District 25, effective January 1, 2015. Judge Cherry will succeed Judge Robert Brady, who is retiring at the end of the year.

District 25 includes Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties.

Judge Cherry has served District 25 as a district court judge since 2000. He was previously a private attorney, and graduated from Campbell Law School in 1982.
