Legal Oasis Fellowship
The Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism is committed to equal access to justice in the legal community. As part of our ongoing commitment to address equal access to legal services and participation in the legal profession experienced by underserved communities in North Carolina, we are proud to announce the Legal Oasis Fellowship.
The Legal Oasis Fellowship is a unique, competitive opportunity for law students who desire to work in an underserved area in North Carolina. Legal Oasis Fellowship will participate in a paid summer program providing an opportunity to gain experience in a legal work setting in an underserved community.
The Legal Oasis Fellowship seeks applications from law students who are interested in practicing in underserved areas in North Carolina.
Fellowship Highlights
- Participation in a 10-week summer program with an employer host.
- The first 8 weeks will be with the host firm doing IDS (Indigent Defense Services) work or with local judges.
- 1 week with a community partner in the location of the host employer.
- 1 week with the local District Attorney, Public Defender, or Drug Treatment Court.
- The Legal Oasis Fellow will receive a stipend of $5,000. If housing is needed, the local host employer will help arrange housing.
