Administrative Traffic Court

Find out more about appearing in Wake County Traffic Court.

Administrative Traffic Court is designed to dispose of infractions and minor traffic offenses quickly while giving attendees flexible hours to attend.

Administrative Traffic Court is held from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the scheduled court date. You may appear any time during those hours. You may appear in person or retain a lawyer to appear on your behalf. Please be aware that this is not a trial court. The officer who issued the citation will not be present in court on this date. If you wish to contest your citation and plead not guilty, either you or your lawyer must appear in court to schedule a trial in the future when the officer is scheduled to be in court.

Upon arriving on the first floor on the date of your scheduled court appearance, you must sign in with the clerk stationed outside of courtroom 101. If the clerks are not in the lobby, enter courtroom 101 and check in with the district attorney. At that point you will be instructed to wait inside the courtroom until the assistant district attorney calls your name. He / she will speak with you about your case before you are called before the judge. Trials are not held in this courtroom; therefore, if you want to be tried for an infraction, you must appear on your initial date and make a motion for a continuance so that the officer who issued the citation can be subpoenaed for a later date.

Note: 7:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. is generally the busiest time of the day.
